Greenland: Construction of Nuuk Airport
At the airport, Munck Civil Engineering constructed a 2,200 m runway with two taxiways, as well as a terminal area with apron and building plots for terminal and service buildings.
Throughout the entire construction period, the airport remained in operation.
The project also included connection to access roads from the city of Nuuk, relocation of sled trails, parking facilities in the terminal area, construction of an explosives depot, foundations and masts for lighting, earthworks and cable installation outside the runway and terminal area, sewer, power and telecom lines, as well as fencing of the airport.
The project was carried out in collaboration between Munck Civil Engineering and Munck Havne & Anlæg.
Key elements of the project:
- 5.8 million m³ of rock excavated by blasting
- 8.2 million m³ of blasted rock placed
- Approx. 950,000 m³ of loose soil
- 77,000 tons of asphalt, including
- 310,000 m² wearing course and
- 285,000 m² base course
- 450 tons of emulsion (bonding and sealing of MacAdam)
