About TARCO

TARCO was originally founded in 1919 by several municipalities to refine and reuse tar from municipal gasworks. By the 1920s, road construction became a new business area. TARCO’s major expansion occurred during the 1970s and 1980s, with the establishment of asphalt plants in Kongensbro, Roskilde, and Årup, as well as a pipe factory in Fredericia and a chemical plant in Nyborg.

TARCO was formerly known as Danske Gasværkers Tjærekompagni A/S (The Tar Company of Danish Gasworks). The name change occurred in 1986 to support increasing exports with a more internationally friendly name.
